Gift ideas for a new born baby
New parents receive many clothes and toys that are outgrown in months. A few gifts become keepsakes the child is shown years later.

Useful for the first months
- Cotton swaddles, sleep suits in the next size up, and soft towels.
- A cooked meal or a week of help for the parents. Often the most welcome gift of all.
- A baby carrier or a feeding chair, if the family does not have one yet (ask first).
Keepsakes for later
- A box for the first things: the hospital band, the first photo, a lock of hair.
- A letter written to the child, to be opened on their eighteenth birthday.
- Silver: a small spoon or anklets, as many families give.
- A star named for the baby, with the date of birth on the certificate and a page that shows where it is in the sky.
A note on names
If the naming ceremony has not happened yet, wait for the name, or put the date of birth and the parents' names on the gift instead.
A named star is a symbolic gift kept in our private registry. It is not recognised by the International Astronomical Union.
